Birmingham-Southern College Catalog 2014-2015
Graduation with Disciplinary Honors in Music Performance
Music majors may graduate with honors in performance by fulfilling
the following requirements:
(1) Complete the requirements for a B.A. in music.
(2) Attain a 3.0 or better grade point average in all courses taken at
Birmingham-Southern College.
(3) Attain a 3.25 or better grade point average in all courses in music.
(4) Take two additional terms of MS 400 applied study.
(5) Take an additional ½ unit in MU or MED, 300-level courses or
above.
(6) Qualify for honors designation study at the end of the sophomore
year.
(7) Perform a 30-minute recital in the junior year.
(8) Perform a 60-minute recital in the senior year.
Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.)
The Bachelor of Music Education degree is a pre-professional program
designed especially for students who wish to be eligible for a Class B, P-12
Teaching Certification. Students admitted to the B.M.E. degree program
concentrate in either a vocal/choral or instrumental track.
Admission to the Teacher Education Program is required, and is usually
completed in the sophomore year. Students must adhere to all policies and
graduation requirements of the College’s Education Department. See the
Education Department section of this catalog for additional information.
In addition to the completion of courses listed below, other
requirements are the performance of a minimum of a half recital
(approximately thirty minutes), typically in the senior year, and satisfying
the piano proficiency level appropriate to the major instrument of study.
